Saturday May 12, 2018 The Amsden Coffee Club Versailles, Kentucky

WOW!!!

This past Saturday I taught my first workshop at The Amsden. First of all can we talk about how charming Versailles, Kentucky is?! The Riddle's have done a FABULOUS job in the heart of that little town, restoring the old bank building into a collaboration of small boutiques( Gathered Mercantile), The Amsden Bourbon Bar, The Yoga Room and the Amsden Coffee Club! If there is one thing you should know about me it's that I'm enchanted by history and all the charming and cozy aspects of small town life and this place has it all.

Side note.... I grew up in the small town of Noblesville, Indiana.... Charming is an understatement. If you haven't been to The Amsden you need to make it a priority, especially because the floral bar is to die for!

So having said all that the workshop location outside The Amsden was a perfect fit for a Saturday morning of sipping coffee and painting horses. I know some participants that would have to agree! We had lovely weather and a great group. They followed along while we created a horse racing painting. My teaching style I think a bit different than some follow along activities, as I try to give you the skills necessary to not only complete the project but to be able to do something similar at home without my help.  I was impressed by how well they did as we practiced drawing a horse and jockey from start to finish, followed by adding color through a few different mediums. We got to play with oil pastels and watercolor paints.  They learned how to utilize each medium and learned all about proportions so that each part of the horse lined up to their style and expectations and actually looked like a horse.

The best quote of the morning "I am surprised it actually looks like a horse"- student.

By far the best compliment and that is exactly why I LOVE teaching. I like to see the amazement on my students faces as they accomplish something they didn't think they could do. All art is different and I enjoy encouraging each student to find their own style and creative nature. So what are you waiting for????
